TRADITIONAL REFINISHING
This method of refinishing hardwood floors involves, first, drum sanding your floor to remove surface coatings, deep scratches and stains, and also to level uneven areas. When done properly, sanding will restore the species' grain -- one of the defining features of a hardwood flooring. An industrial grade vacuum cleaner is then used to collect particles and dust from the sanding procedure. After the floor has been smoothed and thoroughly coated, a polyurethane sealer is implemented or, depending upon your taste, a stain and sealer.
It is possible to select either an oil-based sealer or even a water-based sealer. It is best to talk with your refinisher or neighborhood merchant before choosing.
The entire process of refinishing hardwood floors by conventional methods occurs over a series of days to permit for curing and drying times. It might take around a week before it's possible to walk on the refinished floor.
